How business days from today are counted
- Today is day 0. The count starts on the next business day. If you ask on a Monday, 1 business day from today is Tuesday.
- Weekends are skipped. Saturday and Sunday never count, so 5 business days always land on the same weekday a week later when there is no holiday.
- Holidays are skipped. Each weekday holiday in the window pushes the date one business day later. Which holidays count depends on who is counting: federal offices, banks, the stock market or another country.
- Weekend start. On a Saturday or Sunday, day 1 is Monday (or Tuesday after a Monday holiday).
Some contracts and courts count differently, for example by including the start day or by using calendar days. Check the wording; calendar days vs business days explains the difference.
