How Many Business Days is a free calculator and a set of guides for one everyday question: how many working days are there between two dates, and what date is a given number of business days away? People use it to check delivery windows, payment and filing deadlines, notice periods and project schedules.

How we count
A business day is a weekday (Monday to Friday) that is not a public holiday in the selected region. When a holiday falls on a weekend, many employers and governments give a substitute day off. The calculator uses the official observed date where one exists (US federal holidays, UK substitute bank holidays); Canadian provincial holidays stay on their calendar date. For example, a US federal holiday that falls on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one that falls on a Sunday is observed on the Monday after. Banks follow the Federal Reserve, which treats a Saturday holiday differently: the Federal Reserve Banks stay open on the Friday before, while a Sunday holiday still closes them on the Monday after. Where the holiday data comes from
Holiday dates cover 2025 to 2030 and come from official sources:
- United States federal holidays: U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
- US bank holidays: Federal Reserve Financial Services holiday schedule
- US stock market holidays and early closes: NYSE holidays and trading hours
- UK bank holidays (England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland): gov.uk
- Canada federal statutory holidays: Canada.ca; provincial holidays: the governments of British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta
- Other countries: national public holiday calendars compiled with the open-source holidays library, corrected where an official source differs
The data is checked against these sources and the calculator shows the date it was last updated. If a range includes years outside 2025–2030, the calculator warns you that holidays in those years are not excluded.
