3 to 5 business days from today
The dates above update every day and skip US federal holidays. If you are waiting on a bank, a refund or a UK or Indian business, the holiday calendar is different, so the dates can be too:
- Banks (Federal Reserve calendar): 3 business days after is , excluding United States (Federal Reserve and banks) holidays. 5 business days after is , excluding United States (Federal Reserve and banks) holidays.
- England and Wales (3-5 working days): 3 business days after is , excluding England and Wales holidays. 5 business days after is , excluding England and Wales holidays.
- India: 3 business days after is , excluding India (central government) holidays. 5 business days after is , excluding India (central government) holidays.
Is today itself a business day? Yes. is a business day for United States (federal). If you order on a weekend or a holiday, the count starts on the next business day.
If you order on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday
This table assumes a normal week with no holidays and an order placed before the seller’s cutoff time. Day 1 is the next business day.
| Order placed on | 3 business days | 5 business days | Calendar days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | Thursday | Monday of the next week | 3 to 7 |
| Tuesday | Friday | Tuesday of the next week | 3 to 7 |
| Wednesday | Monday of the next week | Wednesday of the next week | 5 to 7 |
| Thursday | Tuesday of the next week | Thursday of the next week | 5 to 7 |
| Friday | Wednesday of the next week | Friday of the next week | 5 to 7 |
| Saturday or Sunday | Wednesday | Friday | 3 to 6 |
Orders placed early in the week do best: a Monday or Tuesday order can arrive the same week on the 3-day end. From Wednesday on, every 3-5 day window crosses a weekend, so add two calendar days.
Why weekends and holidays stretch the wait
Saturdays and Sundays never count as business days. Public holidays don’t count either. When one falls inside the window, the delivery or deposit moves one business day later.
An example: an order placed on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week (). Wednesday is business day 1, Thanksgiving Thursday is a federal holiday and is skipped, and the count resumes on Friday, so day 3 lands on the Monday after Thanksgiving and day 5 on the Wednesday after. Counted from the holiday itself: 2 business days after is , excluding United States (federal) holidays. 4 business days after is , excluding United States (federal) holidays. Without the holiday it would have been Friday and Tuesday. Christmas and New Year’s Day shift a window the same way.
The next holiday to watch: The next United States (federal) holiday is Veterans Day on , 20 days from today. See the full list on the holidays page or in our US federal holidays list. The official dates come from the US Office of Personnel Management.
3-5 business days for shipping
A “3-5 business days” shipping estimate is the time in transit. It usually starts when the parcel ships, not when you click buy. Two things add time before the clock starts:
- Cutoff time. Most shops have a daily cutoff. An order placed after it is processed the next business day.
- Handling time. Some sellers take one or two business days to pack an order. Check whether the estimate says “ships in” or “arrives in”.
Carriers don’t all keep the same days. USPS delivers Monday to Saturday, so a USPS estimate may count Saturday. USPS is closed on federal holidays. UPS and FedEx keep their own holiday schedules and work on some federal holidays, so check your carrier’s calendar. More on this in what business days mean in shipping.
3-5 business days for banks, refunds and transfers
Banks follow the Federal Reserve holiday calendar, which is not quite the federal one. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, federal offices close on the Friday before, but the Federal Reserve Banks stay open that Friday. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, both close on the Monday after. The Federal Reserve holiday schedule lists the dates.
For a refund or transfer that takes “3-5 business days”, the count usually starts when the merchant or bank processes it. A refund issued on Friday afternoon may not start counting until Monday. Your card issuer then needs time to post it to your account.
How long is 3 to 7 or 3 to 6 business days?
The same rule works for other ranges. 3-6 business days is 3 to 10 calendar days. 3-7 business days is 3 to 11 calendar days, so up to about a week and a half. For the next ranges up, see how long 5-7 business days is, how long 5 business days is and how long 7-10 business days is. The difference between the two kinds of day is explained in calendar days vs business days.
FAQ
How long is 3-5 business days in weeks?
Under a week in most cases. Three to five business days is 3 to 7 calendar days without a holiday. A holiday in the window can push it just past one week.
Does 3-5 business days include Saturday?
Not usually. Business days are Monday to Friday. The exception is USPS, which delivers on Saturdays, so some USPS estimates count Saturday as a delivery day.
If I order on Friday, when will 3-5 business days arrive?
Between Wednesday and Friday of the next week, if there is no holiday and you ordered before the cutoff. A Friday order placed after the cutoff is processed on Monday, so the count still starts on Monday.

Usually not. Most sellers and banks count from the next business day. If a seller ships the same day before its cutoff, the window can end one business day sooner.
What is 3-5 working days in the UK?
The same thing: Monday to Friday, minus bank holidays. England and Wales have their own bank holidays, listed in our UK bank holidays guide.
