Does 2027 have 27 biweekly pay periods?
On the calendar, schedule A does: 2027 starts and ends on a Friday, so it holds 53 Fridays and schedule A gets 27 of them. In practice January 1 is a bank holiday, and most employers pay that check on December 31, 2026. Schedule A then pays 26 times in 2027, and its 27-paycheck year is 2026. If your employer pays the business day after a holiday instead, schedule A’s January 1 payday moves to Monday, January 4, and 2027 keeps all 27. How to read a biweekly payroll calendar
- Every 14 days, same weekday: a biweekly payday is always the same weekday, two weeks apart. Two schedules run side by side on alternating weeks, often called A and B weeks or “pay weeks” and “off weeks”.
- Two-paycheck and three-paycheck months: most months have two paydays and two months a year have three (three months in a 27-payday year). In 2027, schedule A has three in July and December, and in January on paper; schedule B has three in April and October.
- Pay period vs payday: the payday usually comes a few days to a week after the two-week pay period it covers ends. This page shows paydays.
- Holiday rule: direct deposit only settles on days the Federal Reserve is open. Federal holidays that fall on a Saturday do not close the Fed on the Friday before, which is why the default calendar uses the US bank holidays rather than the federal office closures.

If you are on Friday schedule B, December 24, 2027 is your payday. Christmas falls on a Saturday, so federal offices close on Friday the 24th, but banks and the Federal Reserve are open and direct deposits arrive as normal.
